Cockle Bay Playcentre
Cockle Bay Playcentre is a licensed Early Childhood Education centre, run by parents as a volunteer cooperative. We use principles of child-led play, with the guide of Te Whaariki (the New Zealand ECE curriculum). We run sessions for tamariki aged 0-6, Tuesday to Friday, 9am to midday. There is no hourly charge, just a koha (donation) each term. Parents stay with their children to run the session - there are no teachers. Playcentre Aotearoa offers a free adult education program with a Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood Education, so parents can facilitate the children's learning.
